My wife almost walked into this. Owchie. It flew up and started going nuts while she was 3' away or so. Sorta glad it did it *then* instead of when she was in range.
About 6-12" off the trail, mostly hidden under a bit of brush till Sandy got close. Insanely cranky, soon as she was near it flew up into a defensive posture, did a few strikes, and kept buzzing. probably 3' in length or a bit less, C. viridis.

1st horned lizard

2nd, a subadult

more reports to TPWD incoming for the horned lizard and boxies. Apparently they're wanting people to report sightings...they may get sick of me before the season's done! ----- We wouldn't have 6 and a half billion people if you had to be beautiful to get laid.
