RE: help with new american toad

I am always a bit confused as to why people insist that B. americanus need a water dish. In the wild adult toads never enter the water except for breeding. If the substrate is kept moist enough shouldn't that be enough? I've found that coconut bark seems to hold moisture very well. Is there a reason for the water dish that I'm missing here?
