With all due respect, pipping is what a hatchling does on it's own by cutting out of the egg, it does not necessarily mean to cut open an egg by outside forces, that is something entirely different. Websters defines "Pip" as: "to break through (the shell): said of a hatching bird". Actually, I am unaware of an actual word that defines pre-slitting eggs for neonates other than slitting or cutting.



But I do agree that it's best to let the animal do it's own work as it's natures way of defining the strength and health of all animals while eliminating the weak ones.



I think the main reason why most people slit eggs anyways is to determine what type of morphs are inside each of those eggs. Otherwise, it's also to check on neonates that are long after their expected hatching date to see whether they are stillborn or not.
