Weidemeyer's Admiral. Common throughout the West from northern Mexico to Canada. One flight each year, usually late May-early July depending on latitude. Mostly streamside. Caterpillars feed on willows. Nice bug, very colorful underside. Might post pix of upper and undersides later if I can find where I put those shots. Here's a pic of one from Oak Creek AZ plus a closely related butterfly, the Mexican Sister.
