Hi Albey,
I'm reluctant to even speculate at this point. I want to wait to see what hatches out of the sister's clutch. She just had her pre-lay shed last week, so we're looking at another ten weeks or so.
What complicates this story further is the fact that the grandfather of these babies (the father's father) is a very cool aberrant striped snake as well. He was an African hatch. He doesn't look too much like these babies. His stripe is very uniform and clean, and he is over-all much more balanced and symmetrical looking. I paired him with the sisters hoping something might line up genetically (even though they really do not look alike). So although I think it's more likely that what we're seeing in these striped babies is the result of the moms genetics, there is the possibility that the grandfather may be contributing something as well.
I do have what feels like a four egg clutch coming from the Grandfather of these babies, bred to one of his daughters (a sibling to the father of the new stripers). So that may prove interesting as well. Man this stuff get confusing and convoluted fast... I'd be lost if I didn't keep good records
Hopefully the mystery will be solved as these next clutches hatch.
Take care, Dan
