UPDATED @ 2:15 p.m. Thursday: Now that it's caught, the once-escaped python has been taken to a zoo near Lewisburg. It has not been returned to its owners. The story below has been updated with new information.



A pet python reported missing Monday in Ferguson Township was captured about 8 p.m. Wednesday, township police said.



It was found in a front yard on the 1400 block of Harris Street, less than a block away from the Linn Street address where it escaped sometime between Saturday and Monday, township police Chief Diane Conrad said.



Both streets are in the Overlook Heights area, close to the State College borough line.



Conrad said the 10-foot snake was docile and hadn't appeared to have eaten anything when it was taken into police custody Wednesday. It was transported Thursday morning to Reptiland, a small zoo in Allenwood, near Lewisburg.



"That will be a good safe-keeping place for it," Conrad said.



Meanwhile, she said, police are investigating whether crimes or other township violations were committed in connection with the snake's escape.



Conrad did not release the names of the snake's owners, citing the ongoing investigation. She did confirm that they are township residents who live on Linn Street.



For the time being, Conrad said, police will not return the snake to the owners. The non-venomous constrictor escaped at least once before from the Linn Street address.



It had been kept in a holding cage on the driveway when it got away most recently, Conrad said. Police have been looking into exactly how it escaped.



They had advised all Centre Region residents to keep an eye out for the snake.
