I think the same about your observations.

We keep our hatchlings the way you describe and they doin fine



When they do not start to feed after 4 tryes, we remove the water. This last 5-7 days. Than remove the paper towel for feeding also.

Put the f/t pinky in the box and drop some fresh water on the head of the pinky.

This works well for us
