you dont have to remove the animal from the room. you jsut cant spray it directly on them. the instructions clearly state to jsut remove the animal and the waterbowl from the enclosure, spray it, let it air a minute or so and then replace them. you can also spray a bit on a rag and wipe the animal down if need be.
