I frequently refer to them as the mugitus of Europe due to their fiestiness; they hiss like crazy and have a small cartilaginous filament at the base of the glottis (sound familiar, "Pit" people?). I mentioned the similarity these animals have to Pituophis on that Pit forum some time back but no one took notice; can't say I'm surprised.
