I don't see why we can't do both. I think it's fun having the lavish names. But I also think it is important to identify the parts of the whole. Why not use dual system? That way the artist can name his creation and we can interpret it. Ex: Bumble Bee/pastel-spider. IMO, I think it covers both bases.
