You are preaching to the choir here. Nobody who comes here to discuss their balls is out there releasing them into the wild.

I searched and could not find any articles about this. Please post the article. Would be nice to see a photo of the snake found to confirm it really is a ball python.

If the news can call a Bull Snake an Anaconda I would not put it past them to call a Cali King a Ball Python. Snakes can also miraculously increase in size when news reporters are present. They will look at a 3 foot snake and report it as a 10 foot snake. I would not trust their word on species or size w/out seeing a video or photo of the actual snake.

If it really was a ball python or any snake non native to L.A. then it's a shame someone was irresponsible enough to let it go loose either intentionally or through improper caging. Although there is always the possibility it was a publicity stunt by one of the many anti reptile groups out there and not an irresponsible pet owner.

I do not believe it would be possible for one loose snake to start an epidemic. Ball Pythons could not survive long enough in any US state to start up a breeding group like the Burms did in the Everglades. That is a very isolated incident and I'm very surprised you even made a correlation between what's happening there and one loose snake in LA. It's that kind of thinking that we are having to constantly defend ourselves against.
