My cats often catch garters that come in under the garage door. (kittys are NOT allowed outside...they kill too much and then die in the road) granted often young garters under two feet.

On the BIG garter note....I found a pair of huge garters in Hector NY as a mid teen...so, the 70s. Each was a vile tempered thing and latched onto my hand and as I held them out to show my dad they just reached the ground with their tails. They were every bit of 3.5-4 ft. Wish I had a picture. They were the largest two I have ever seen.

And on the color note....I had a buddy bring me a killed by mower snake. He had never seen one this blue he said. I was trying to think.....then he showed up with a Smooth Green snake. After death that thing went the most beautiful ocean blue.
