I use unprinted newspaper inside the tub. Within the larger tub I use another smaller tub with peat moss. I like the idea the snakes can burrow inside the smaller tub as if they're under a tree stump in the wild. This gives the tub a clean appearance and all I have to do is roll up the paper and replace it.
