Yeah, when young, they seem to resemble tree boas more than mainland Epicrates. I think you hit the nail on the head. I don't have any field observations or studies to back me up, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are mostly arboreal even as adults. I don't know if Jamaicans do it, but I've seen pics of Puerto Rican boas perching/hanging on roots in cave walls and catching bats. I recently started feeding Jamba baby quail, and she seems to like them more than anoles, based on how quickly she comes out to eat them.

Tonight I took my male out, and it really struck me how strong of a grip he has with the lower half of his body. I could hardly get him off the piece of bamboo he was on even when only a couple inches of his tail were wrapped around the plant.
