However, they may be intergrades between two subspecies, P.m.lodingii and P.m.melanoleucus. Would be interesting to see the parents. They could also be the offspring of intergrades, if, as you say, the parents had well-defined patterns. I doubt if they are "pure black pines" with that much pattern. [ Hide Replies ]
