The only issue with just basing it on weight is that sometimes people forget to take length into consideration. A 3.5 foot 1500 gram animal will probably be a better candidate than a 5 foot 1800 gram animal. that being said, most females won't hit a breedable weight until, at the earliest, their second winter-usually their third.
