Posted by: Earthworks at Sat Oct 30 21:38:18 2010 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by Earthworks ] I feed my BPs F/T whenever possible to avoid injury amoung other things. 6-7 days ago one of my big females struck a f/t rat in such a way that the rats sharp teeth in its open mouth pierced the lower lip of the snake! I was concerned about infection since rats can be rather dirty so i removed the water bowl temporarily to cut down on humidity and watched it, 2 days ago (the 28th) she did take another f/t however wasnt so keen to strike but ate it slowly off the cage floor (interesting if this was due to a memory/adaption based on the mishap last feeding but i maybe reaching here and i digress)...at no point has it seemed infected at all, no small/puss/swelling, as of today it was just the darkish i would expect of a healing wound, i cleaned the cage and applied a bit of topical antibiotic cream with a Qtip (is this ok?) just to be safe. So has this happened to anyone else with f/t? and is there anything else i can/should be doing? thanks! [ Hide Replies ]
