Come to think of it,
A few years ago, there was a public protection committee meeting held by a city in central Wisconsin discussing a possible new ordinance on keeping exotic animals after someone in the city had a 3-4 foot American Alligator they were keeping in an outdoor chicken wire pen escape, resulting in the county animal control having to recapture it. After that, there was much discussion on creating an ordinance and what actually constutes an exotic animal. I believe there were a couple of other people who made requests to the city to keep rabbits, a ball python, iguanas, and some tarantulas during that same time as well. I wasn't in attendence at that meeting, but I do have a recap of it from the city's meeting minutes.

I can also recall from the city public protection committee minutes that there was also discussion on the creation of a part time city subcommittee to deal with future animal ownership requests consisting of the county HS animal control officer, a member of the public protection committee, and another member of the public. Back then, I did consider inquiring about filling that position as a means of representing the reptile and exotics keeping community locally. However, to my knowledge, that committe was never formed and have not heard anything about it since then.
