Justin, there are a great many snake books out there right now that can bring you up to speed alot faster than the forum. PM me and I will recommend some. That said, skin is renewed by shedding. Growth occurs in all directions but if you can imagine the guts getting bigger, the vertebrae getting bigger it will give you a better idea of how and why snakes shed. We look at only the outside of the snake but its the whole thing that is growing.
