I think it is an evolution of the hobbyist in some ways.

I have some on display upstairs. I have a dungeon with others. I have some display set ups, some tubs and a rack or two. All I consider pets though not all have names. I have 8 or ten varietys. Some species I have a single pet, some a pair or a trio. Some I breed and some I never will.

I also have fish-marine and fresh, birds parakeets to a CAG and dogs cats ferrets....pretty eclectic.
