I'll talk about lamp *types* instead of lamp watts. What you want is the right temperature over a large enough basking space, I assume.



I suggest that you try the PAR style lamps in the domes. PAR lamps direct all the heat and light energy downward, and they look kind of like a floodlight. In my experience, a 50 watt PAR wide-angle lamp works as well (for the basking spot) as a 100 watt typ A, the regualr household bulb, in the domes. Plus the lamp socket is cooler with PAR lamps.



Raise and lower the lights to get the right temp on the basking surface.
