The animals in West Texas often show traits from both Pituophis catenifer sayi and P. c. affinis. The two forms intergrade broadly and some populations are apt to show characteristics of one form more prominently than the other due to gene flow and selection. They've got locality data, so what common name you apply to them is really irrelevant. I, personally, would call them, "Pituophis catenifer affinis X sayi - Christmas Mountains, Brewster County, Texas."
Check out Tim Gebhard's website for some additional info on Pituophis from the Big Bend region: Vivid Reptiles.
