Am I surprised that China is willing to drive over some animals to get minerals? Not even close to being surprised.
Have you seen the atrocities that go on in Sudan? China has gladly turned a blind eye to this human suffering for the sake of acquiring resources to sustain their current level of growth and plan for the future.
Consider what the Chinese government does to their OWN PEOPLE, and than ask yourself how much compassion and respect they would have for FOREIGN ANIMALS??
Shark fins, tiger paws, and elephant tusks, bear gallbladders,......... when will the demand for THOSE 'resources'* ever end??
