I read that an Illinois dog group is in talks with the bill sponsor to drop it. As usual the sponsor (Rep. Pat Verschoore) did not know of the negative consequences to this legislation. The group is the Illinois Federation of Dog Owners.

I hope he drops it; as companion animal is defined in the Humane Care for Animals Act as canine feline or equine. It also leaves itself open to add animals to the list. If say, rabbits were added; anyone producing feeders in that state (I know of 2 big ones) could be targeted in the bill. Their only chance would be registered as an agricultural business. Which doesn't exactly take them out of HSUS cross hairs.
