So I had a 5 ft. really fat black pine escape her cage today and I am very upset. Anybody have any ideas on odd places to look in the house? I've pulled out the refrigerator and stove, every piece of furniture, etc. checked corners, closets, drawers, mattresses,etc. and nothing. I had a window cracked near the cage and I fear the worst.
Aside from that I have been trying to figure out how she got out of her cage. I kept her in a 40 gallon breeder with a sliding top and a clip to prevent the top from sliding open. There was no possible way the lid could have slid enough for her to escape. After inspecting the cage multiple times, (out of shear, how the hell did this happen), I found that she seemed to have been powerful enough to break the adhesive off the tops framing and push the entire top of the aquarium off, meaning the part that the sliding screen slides into. So a word to other keepers since these are common tanks for housing larger species. Do not trust the adhesive! Lesson learned here, that cage will never be used again.
