Yeah, of all the decades I have lived in south Florida growing up, I don't recall EVER seeing a single salamander either. Maybe most of them are further north, but then again, one would have to be in the right suitable habitat at the right time of the year I guess too...(shrug).
I would have never guessed there were that many different kinds in Florida alone!
