Several years ago in my area a man was put in the hospital by a feral cat. True story. He had been putting food out for it for a while and one day it appeared to be injured. He tried to pick it up to see how bad the injury was and it scratched and/or bit him. The cat was carrying some kind of bacteria and the man got septicemia and almost died.



This is a good example of why it's stupid, IMHO, to direct too many resources to animal control. Most of the time when somebody gets hurt it's either a fluke accident or it the person's own carelessness and stupidity. No amount of legislation is going to prevent such mishaps and we could spend millions of tax dollars on creating and enforcing stupid laws and the occasional fluke accident is still going to happen.
