I have a python that has what I believe to be mouth rot or some kind of infection in the mouth. Her is the story: When I first noticed the swelling and mouth starting to gape a little I took him to the vet. The vet said that he had a small infection in the mouth and gave me some betadine to swap on just the outside of his mouth so his teeth wouldn't catch on the cotton. I did this for a week and it just got worse. I then called the breeder of the snake and he told me to swab it with hydrogen peroxide and then wash it clean and then swab it with betadine. He said not to worry about his teeth catching on the cotton and that it was more important to get it on the infected area. Now I've been doing it this way for about 4 days and it doesn't really look any better. I would take him back to the vet, but the vets her don't know crap. The snake is now ballooning up at the neck and bubbling at the mouth. I try my hardest not to get any hydrogen peroxide down his mouth, which I think is causing this. Can anyone here recommend what I should do or could anyone give me a number to a good vet that could tell me what to do? I would pay anything to just have him healthy again. Oh yea and I'm not sure what caused it. I think he jammed his tooth or something. There are no mites and I'm using paper as a substrate. Thanks guys. Brian D
