A few years ago I again found the passion I had as a young man for reptiles. I dove right in - and eventually took on the responsibility for a baby water monitor. I just couldnt resist - I find them gorgeous and their huge size just added to their allure for me.
Anyway - I spent thousands of dollars building her enclosures and countless hours taking care of her. She stunk up my entire house daily, requiring much much work.
She was awesome, she was past 5 feet long in less than two years, and incredibly powerful.
Guess how it ended? Even with all my best intentions and the saintly patience of my wife and family - I had to sell her. I just could not continue, life got in the way and she was getting more and more difficult, costing more and more money.
I hate to say it but I bet she ended up dying terribly. Or she is neglected in a too-small cage covered in feces and filth, unable to reach her potential.
I read over and over from FR and others that a Water is just too much to take care of properly for 99% of reptile owners. But I was going to be different. I own my home, I have a good job...I could do it! Boy was I wrong, and guess who suffered?
I hope someone learns from this...unless you have a damn zoo do not purchase water monitors.
Sorry Mojo, I hope by some miracle you are living a good life!
Tom
