2 illegal reptiles recovered from Halawa apartment
HALAWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Animal CrimeStoppers and the Hawaiian Humane Society recovered two illegal reptiles from an apartment in Halawa on Wednesday.
According to officials, a skink and bearded dragon were retrieved at 10 a.m.
Back in February, Animal CrimeStoppers received a tip about possible exotic animals living in the area. Officers were sent to the area, but were unable to get into the residence.
Animal CrimeStoppers later received several more tips about the types of animals in the home.
According to Honolulu Police Department Sergeant Kim Buffett, officers were able to enter the residence after the apartment manager spotted the reptiles during a water leak.
According to the Hawaiian Humane Society, this is the second incident this year where illegal animals were recovered from a residence.
The first incident happened back in February when a five-foot-long boa constrictor snake and four piranhas were discovered in Alewa Heights following a house fire.
The reptiles recovered Wednesday were secured and transported safely to the Humane Society.
The case will be turned over to the Department of Agriculture.
Animal CrimeStoppers wants to thank the public for their tips. www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/15001814/2-illegal-reptiles-recovered-from-halawa-apartment
