i think that pretty much covers it. they know if they should/want to breed or not. if they are healthy enough to handle it, they will. if they know they cant, they wont.

if this weren't the case, there would be a million threads on 'omg my gravid female died before/right after laying eggs'. and i can't really say i have seen many if any of those
