Just purchased a hatchling tri color hognose at a reptile expo. I was planning on getting a western, but the tri-colors caught my eye, and when the vendor let me hold one, I had to have it. I had read some about them when researching the westerns, but i can't find a complete care sheet for the tri-color species specifically.
Currently he is housed in a 10 gallon glass viv with about 2 inches of aspen bedding as substrate. A UTH on one half is set to a constant 85 degrees F.
Is this temperature acceptable?
Also what do they eat other than amphibians and rodents? I've seen snake owners feed their animals boiled eggs as a supplement; is this acceptable? Also can you feed them feeder fish? He is tiny and looks like he can barely handle a pinkie mouse. Perhaps minnows would be a smaller alternative until he puts some weight on?
If anyone has a link to a good care sheet, please send it my way. Any other advice would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all. =]
