After not having seen one at all last year... or one until today this year... I found this little neonate today under a rock in my yard...



She has a spinal deformity... evident at the seventh dorsal spot. She seems to lack any muscle control for an 1 1/2 inches after that and limited control beyond there... for the first time I'm thinking of removing an animal from the wild to keep as a pet... she's a pretty little thing but when you're all but dragging 2/3 of your body length along... the future isn't all that promising. Hopefully things are much better with her clutch mates.
