A true Mega hypo is actually much darker than an extreme.

Also, Megas have been produced by het to het breedings. I don't know of anyone, ever, producing an "extreme" from two "normal" looking parents.

That's why I'm doing specific selective breeding (outcrossing as well as line breeding) to try and figure this out.

But, if I was going to bet money...I would bet that the "Mega" hypo is another type of single recessive hypo, that is potentially allelic to the other lines already in existence.

In my opinion, the "extremes" that people have are just the outcome of multiple allelic hypo (polymorphic) genes expressing at the same time.

That would explain why when you breed a phenotypically extreme to an extreme you don't get ALL extremes.

One extreme is HYPO 1,2 and 3...while the other is Hypo 1, 2 and Het 3.

The bottom line is...no one really knows for sure what's going on with the Megas...but I'm very interested in trying to understand it.

I feel it's better to look at things scientifically and try to prove out a theory rather than just saying one looks like another therefore it must be the same.
