An interesting side note to all the sex-linked ZW talk that happens....
Boidae has a very primitive set of sex chromosomes. Their Z and W chromosomes look identical, and there is no real evidence that they follow the ZZ/ZW sex determination found in more advanced snakes like vipers or in birds. It's still very possible that the genes responsible for sex determination are found on the pair of chromosomes that eventually become the sex chromosomes in advanced snakes, but they may be interchangeable still.
