Not too early. I have my first female in her prelay shed now. She should shed in the next couple of days and a second female is just going into her prelay.

Some females will breed directly out of burmation and others will go through a first shed before they are ready to breed. It seems that year after year each individual follows there own schedule so once you know which females breed right away chances are, they always will. At least this has been my experience.

If your female is pulsating or waving her tail then leave the male with her. If she is not and he is trying hard to get away, then listen to the poor ba@#ard and take him out or she may chew his head off. Litterally. I also have a couple of shy males and it works much better for me to put the female in the males box for those pairings.
