First, to answer your question, yes, you would still need a lid on your container.

Honestly, I would never concider using a reptibator. It is just a glorified hovabator. Top heating incubation was designed for bird eggs, not reptile eggs. Reptile breeders started using them years ago because there were no other options. Now we know better and there are other much better options. Top heated incubators can dry out reptile eggs and forces you to run a pretty wet substrate. The best thing you can do is make your own incubator.
