A little while ago there was a question on this forum as to the appropriateness of John Lucas as an author for two articles for the Chameleons Ezine. I approached him to be involved specifically because he 1) is able to write clearly 2) he follows through with what he says he will do and 3) had just had eggs laid. The whole purpose of the articles was to get people thinking about being set up for the babies before they hatch. The experience needed for these articles have more to do with the ability to plan ahead than anything else and who better to get involved than someone who is in that situation? Planning ahead saves money and hassle. It also reduces your blood pressure and gives the hatchlings a better chance for success.
If all works out, he will be writing another article about misting systems for the Ezine and I will be glad to have it. He does the research, puts the systems together, and is able to communicate what he has done. That is what is needed. He is in no way being pushed beyond his relevant experience.
That being said let me add that ALL levels of experience have something they can add to the community. If I wanted an article on finding up-to-date information on chameleons I would seek out a relative newcomer who still has the hunger and is in the "eating up every bit of information possible" stage. They may have little in the way of chameleon experience (a certain amount of "editorial supervision" would be in effect), but I can tell you that the grizzled old hands in the hobby don't necessarily keep up with the newest internet sites or books. When I start asking for "differing incubation strategies with respect to country of origin" then I knock on the door of the grizzled guys!
If John ruffles someone's feathers here on the list than that is between him and the other party, but be assured he is well qualified for the articles he has written for the Ezine!
