What creature would be a good fit?

What kind of terrestrial creature would be happy in a 40 gal long tank? It has the bottom surface area of a 50 gallon. I would perfer terrestrial, because I am pretty fed up with filters. I also would love to landscape with moss and soft plants like that. I was thinking Leopard gecko? But I don't think they like moss. I love pretty much all creatures, but would prefer something that doesn't mind being handled on occasion. I really want to do a mossy tank with maybe a shallow water area (like a super shallow bowl or something). Any ideas?
