larry the threat to boas is most certainly NOT over. do you recall HR511? what about HR5864?

for those who don't know, HR511 was introduced very soon after the USFWS put boas on the back burner for the administrative rule change process (when they listed burms, afrocks and yellow anacondas as injurious). this bill bypasses the USFWS rule change process and adds the OTHER 5 (boas, retics and 3 other anacondas) to the lacey act immediately if passed.

HR5864 pretty much replaces the administrative rule change process currently used (the one the USFWS used for burms) with a much more watered down version that drops many of the safeguards written into the current system. it includes an "emergency provision" where the USFWS can (without any oversight) temporarily list animals as injurious until further action can be taken. both the emergency provision and the actual process result in a ban on import and interstate transport.

we have to remain vigilant. these attacks aren't going to end anytime soon as far as i'm concerned. as long as there are groups like the HSUS, DOW, PETA, etc, we will constantly be targeted by these types of attacks.
