First of all, my condolences to the family of the man who passed away. So very sad.
Second of all, this is NOT what the herp community needs at the moment, regarding the attention that this is bringing from the media. A roach-eating contest to win a ball python? Seriously? Are you kidding??
That contest alone gives off an impression that those who are into snakes are open to performing such ridiculous feats. Not that I care about what others think, but I am thinking about the big picture. Why couldn't the contest be something based around giving to charity, and then winning a ball python? Eating roaches? Come on!!
Those involved in the contest should be embarrased to have allowed such an event to happen, with the negative light that this attention can bring our hobby.
I wish people would think about the ramifications of performing such actions, such as juvenile contests such as that, that it can have, down the road, on others.
