The idea of a Lampropeltis group would be to :-
Promote the genus in the hobby.
To make high quality, genetically sound locales available in the UK. I see the group importing and then breeding animals to make them available to other keepers.
To be fully affiliated to the FBH (The Federation of British Herpetologists) and thus support them in helping to protect our hobby.
To educate others on the care of Lampropeltis by providing quality, detailed care sheets and other articles of interest through a dedicated website.
Facebook would also be used to promote the group.
Set-up a database similar to a stud book, Information of Locality, Owners, Parents, Lineage, Status (Long term Captive/Date of capture/Date of birth), Current ownership.
I believe we need three or four dedicated people to form the backbone of this group and believe we should look to the you guys for acquiring stock etc. I have already had a discussion with James Tintle of Tremendous Tri-Colors, So a huge thanks to you James, for your positive thoughts and contribution.
This Foundation we're trying to achieve does not just benefit the UK, This benefits the long term care and more importantly, authenticity of specimens. In essence, We're looking to wipe away all of the Hobby Hondo's, Sinaloae/Nelsoni's stripped back etc.
There is loads that needs thinking about and absolutely nothing has been decided upon. So please tell me your thoughts.
Kind Regards, Scott Melton
