With all due respect, we can't assume that the OP will know how to palpate the female, nor would I advise he attempt it so close to her laying a clutch. Also, depending on how close she actually is to laying, palpating may not yield an accurate result...primarily because the eggs are close together and there may not be noticeable separations between the eggs. An ultrasound may not show if the eggs are viable, but it would be a safe way to get an egg count. My advice would be to wait her out. Hopefully you'll get some nice eggs.
Predicting clutch sizes based on a females age/weight is not predictable as they are highly variable. We can't speak in absolutes or even generalities here because their are tons of larger females that may throw 4-6 eggs just like a 1500 gram, first year female.
Thanks,
John
