I have good luck with the use of small hides ( jello boxes) with a hole big enough for the snake to crawl in and out of. Baby snakes are shy sometimes and like to ambush hopper mice and the hide gives them this opportunity. Also cooler temps than adults (say 78 degrees) I keep my hatchlings at an ambient temp and no hot spot needed either.
