How would you know if its soft or not? I remember one idiot poked the shell with a the dull side of a nail to tell. Well forget that you shouldn't even touch the shell.. its connected to the bones of the turtle (not just bones, innards, etc) and he/she feels it. Might be painful, I don't know I'm not a turtle.



Give some more info on your turlte.. but anyways I'll just suggest getting a basking area so your turtle can get out the water. A nice hot basking lamp should be 6 inches away so its warm up there and your turtle will want to bask. Then of course you need Repti Glo 5.0 (or some other company 5.0) UVA/B bulb. This will give the vitamins to the shell of the turtle that he/she needs.. the sun provides it normally but if its inside it won't get that benefit. Even if near a window, the glass/plastic will filter most of the D3 or other vitamins needed in the turtles shell.
