I'm not so sure about tomatoes, because I know the plants are toxic for chameleons.... I bet tomotoes are ok though. I've fed them to crickets before and been ok. I bet that chameleons could live in those states too, just that noone has let go enough to get a decent population started. There's Jacksons in parts of California and Hawaii, and panthers have been introduced to Reunion Island. If I knew of a place where panthers could be let go and noone would take them so they could get a nice big population going (like an island noone could get to unless being guided and watched), I'd be more than happy to donate some baby panthers to the cause. If anyone knows of a place or wants to start one, let me know. I think that would be cool since Madagascar is going downhill so fast.
