I had a female Ball Python lay a clutch about 2 month ago. The entire clutch weighed over 800 gr. putting each egg (there were 6) at over 150 gr.

From my research it shows that those are rather big eggs.

The female weighed about 3400 gr. before laying.

Now someone mentioned that it was a small clutch for such a big female and asked me whether she was "fat" or "skinny" (long but skinny) for a female. She is/was neither. She is about 5 1/2 feet long, and thicker then a soda can. She was very healthy, even active.

He said that Ball Python females usually laid about 1/3 of their pre-lay weight or more in a clutch. Making my clutch way to small for such a big female...

I have never heard of that before and thought i had a rather big clutch.

The first baby came out of the egg yesterday and weighed a whopping 101 gr.

After seeing the female after she laid (looking skinny) i'm actually glad she didn't loose even more weight. Thankfully she resumed eating well and regained the weight quickly.

Sadly, she is the one that came down with a possible RI (see post below).

But this is 8 weeks after laying the clutch, and she has always been in best of health before that, while i had her.

Any ideas on all that?
