The Comfort Zone plug-ins are not really "tranquilizers" as much as a fake phemone that mimics the happy scent cats leave behind when they "mark" something with their cheeks. Cats will calm down because they associate the smell with being calm. It doesn't affect them in any other way and so shouldn't "over tranquilize" your senior cat.
