My mom called me last night. My uncle and his wife have three 3-month old kittens that they're trying to find a home for. Apparently, they were going to be adopted, but the woman who was going to adopt them all decided not to.

Anyways, they've been hand-raised since they were two weeks old when their mother was killed on the road. They're now eating regular dry kitten food, and they are also all litterbox trained.

My mom has heard me say that I've been thinking about getting a second cat once Chessie (now about 6 1/2 months old) is given the okay to be declawed and then is out of his kennel that he's in now. She and Dad are offering to take in one of the kittens if I want and let it stay with them (like a foster home) until I'm ready to take it in myself (probably around the end of August). They would let me have it for free, since I would give it a good home. They would also be paying to have it fixed and declawed. All I would have to do is pay for the initial vaccinations.

I'm planning on going on Saturday to at least see the kittens. If I do end up deciding on getting one, I think it would be a good thing. Chessie would then get another companion for when I'm not around, and from everything I've read, having two cats will actually calm each other down, as crazy as that sounds. Also, when the new cat would be brought down, I can then use the kennel that Chessie's in now to keep them separate when I'm not home since I don't have a room that I can keep a second cat in when I'm not there.

Anybody have any other tips or suggestions that I should consider?

Please don't bring up declawing since with my situation, I don't have an alternative.
