cat went on carpet - how to clean?

My 1 year old cat just peed on the carpet for the first time the other day. I had a punching bag filled with water that leaked which I thought was the yellow stain on the carpet which I tried drying up with a rag. It wasn’t until a few days later that it really started to smell like urine. So Im assuming the cat for whatever reason decided to go there.



My questions are... does this sound like something a cat would do? (water = bathroom). Also, how can I clean it since it did sit there a few days? I used a cheap carpet cleaner and scrubbed the floor. I can still smell it. Are there any great carpet cleaners?
